David Johnston – Pipe Major

David is one of the top Pipers in the world who has resided in Germany for thirty years.

David holds the highest qualifications and awards in the piping world i.e. British Army Senior Pipe Majors (Grade A), Highland Bagpipe Diploma, Senior Piping Teachers certificates + 1st prizes in solo piping competitions in both Scotland, Ireland and Mainland Europe (too many to mention) and the World Championship Title 1987 in Glasgow.

Some of David’s high profile engagements were playing for Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for various State Banquets and the famous Trooping of the Colour on Horse Guards Parade.  David is currently the Musical Director of one of the biggest British led Pipe Bands in the World, Crossed Swords Pipe Band, which under his direction, has successfully performed at the Moscow Military Tattoo in 2010 and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2011.

David is often requested to judge at Major Pipe Band and Solo Piping Competitions throughout Europe, which he often concludes with a full 30 minutes solo Piping Recital.  With his Irish Roots, Scottish Qualifications and German Background, David is an expert in the performance of tunes representing all of these countries and more from his vast knowledge and experience in musical repertoire.
